Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) will hold town meetings next week in Sac County on Monday, Feb. 21, Greene County on Tuesday, Feb. 22, Audubon County on Wednesday, Feb. 23 and Monroe County on Thursday, Feb. 24 as part of his annual 99 county meetings.
His Greene County meeting will be held Tuesday from 3:15 to 4:15 pm at the Jefferson Municipal Building, 220 N. Chestnut St.
“You can’t have representative government without dialogue between elected officials and the people we represent,” Grassley said. “I appreciate the opportunity to hold town meetings, answer questions and take comments. My annual 99 county meetings are one way I regularly keep in touch with Iowans to better represent them at the policymaking tables in Washington.”
This is Grassley’s 42nd year of holding meetings in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties. Grassley has held at least one meeting in every county, every year since he was first elected to serve in the U.S. Senate. He takes and answers questions on any subject raised. Iowans set the agenda.
In recent years his meetings have been staged for select audiences. With these meetings, Grassley returns to being available to all constituents.
Grassley, 88, has not yet announced if he will run for re-election in 2022. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974, and has served in the U.S. Senate since 1980.
Grassley will be available for 15 minutes after each meeting to answer questions from local reporters. These town meetings are open to the public and media.
